Looking over the Australian Standing Stones

Third Stop – Glen Innes

After packing up the big tent, we took a further little look around the Mann River Nature Reserve and continued to be impressed.

Then we slowly made our way into Glen Innes, a town that doesn’t reveal its true beauty simply by driving through it.

Australian Standing StonesWe toured around for a bit and headed up to the Australian Standing Stones, where we enjoyed a stroll around with a view and a neat little place to eat called Crofters Cottage.

This little gem has just been taken over by new owners, and while they’re still ironing some things out, the place is a great stop for a bite to eat.

The Crofters Cottage has a strong Celtic influence as does Glen Innes which captures your attention as you cruise the streets checking the place out.

After lunch, we had time to kill before checking into our cabin for the night. So, adventure time it was.

We aimlessly headed out of town and happened to come across Kings Plains CastleKings Plains Castle, not far from Kings Plains National Park.

Yip, serious, Castle, a real castle out off a dirt road in what seems like the middle of nowhere.

You really need to check this place out to believe it, and the nearby national park is quiet something too.

The excitement of our discovery put us well and truly past check in time at the Glen Rest Tourist Park where we had a little cabin booked for the night.

Then it was dinner time and into bed ready for tomorrow’s adventures.
